Can car dealers post on Facebook Marketplace? The rules explained

Updated October 2026

In short: yes, with limits. Since January 30, 2023, a dealership's business Page can't create vehicle listings on Marketplace. Vehicles can still be listed from personal profiles, and dealers can still reach Marketplace shoppers with ads.

What changed in 2023

In October 2022, Meta announced that business Pages would no longer post vehicle listings on Marketplace. From January 30, 2023, active listings from business Pages were deleted and the Pages' vehicle tabs disappeared. Meta said dealers would still be able to reach their audience through ads (CBT News).

What dealers can still do

Option Free or paid Good for
Listings from a personal profile Free Reaching local buyers who browse Marketplace
Meta's Automotive Inventory Ads (vehicle catalog ads) Paid Showing each vehicle with its price to people shopping for one (Meta)
Local buy-and-sell and car groups Free Extra reach, within each group's rules
Your Facebook page and Messenger Free Trust, reviews and conversations

The mistakes that get dealers in trouble

  • More than one account per person. Meta's terms say to "create only one account (your own)" (Meta Terms).
  • Shared logins. The same terms say not to share your password or give others access to your account.
  • Posting too fast. Meta restricts accounts that post "at very high frequencies," manually or automatically (Meta Transparency Center).
  • Listings that don't match the vehicle. Wrong price, wrong mileage or stock photos.
