How to sell cars on Facebook Marketplace: the dealer's guide

Updated October 2026

In short: list every vehicle with its real price, mileage and full photos; add a video; share it in local groups; answer messages within minutes; follow up every lead; and keep listings fresh. Follow Meta's rules: dealership business Pages can't create vehicle listings on Marketplace since January 30, 2023.

1. Know what's allowed

Marketplace was built for people selling to people. Since January 30, 2023, dealership business Pages can't create vehicle listings there; people can still post from their own profiles, and dealers can still advertise (CBT News). Read the full rules in our guide: Can dealers post on Facebook Marketplace?

2. Fill in every field

Buyers filter by price, year, mileage, body style and distance. A blank field can hide your vehicle from those filters. Fill in all of them: year, make, model, trim, price, mileage, body style, fuel, transmission, colors, condition and location.

3. Show the real price

"$1" and "call for price" listings annoy buyers and are among the most common complaints about vehicle listings on Marketplace (CBT News). Show the price you'd actually sell for, and keep it identical to your website.

4. Take photos that answer questions

Use 15 to 20 real photos of the actual vehicle in daylight: front three-quarter first, then sides, back, interior, dashboard with the odometer, seats, trunk, tires and any damage. Stock photos and dark lot photos get scrolled past.

5. Add a video

A 30- to 60-second walkaround shows the condition better than any photo and keeps buyers on your listing longer. See: How to film a car walkaround video with your phone.

6. Write a description that sells

Start with what makes this vehicle worth the drive, then the facts: trim, features, condition, history, financing options and how to reach you. No all-caps, no slogans. See: How to write a vehicle description that sells.

7. Share in local groups

Local buy-and-sell and car groups multiply your reach. Read each group's rules first: many limit dealer posts, and getting removed from a good group costs more than it brings.

8. Answer in minutes, not hours

Most Marketplace conversations start with "Is this still available?" The first dealer to answer with a real reply usually gets the visit. Use automatic replies for the first message, then a person or DriveGood AI for the questions. See: "Is this still available?" How car dealers should answer Marketplace messages.

9. Follow up every lead

Save every conversation as a lead, then follow up by text and email. Buyers who didn't answer today often come back next week.

10. Keep listings fresh

Renew listings so they keep showing up, update prices when they change and remove sold vehicles the same day. A sold vehicle still listed wastes a buyer's time and hurts your reputation.

11. Stay within Meta's rules

Meta can restrict accounts that post "at very high frequencies" or post repetitive content (Meta Transparency Center), and its terms allow one account per person, with no shared passwords (Meta Terms). See: Why Facebook Marketplace listings get removed.

12. Measure what matters

Track leads per vehicle, time to first reply and vehicles sold from Marketplace each month. Those three numbers tell you what to fix.

Frequently asked questions

Is Facebook Marketplace free for dealers?
Posting from a personal profile is free. Meta's ads for vehicles are paid.
How many vehicles can I post per day?
Meta publishes no number. Its spam rules target posting at very high frequencies and repetitive content, so post steadily and make every listing different.
Should I put the price in the listing?
Yes. Listings with a real price are easier to find and more trusted.
