Facebook Marketplace car listing checklist: 12 things every vehicle post needs
By the Drive Good team · October 2026 · 3 min read
In short: a listing that gets messages has every field filled in, the real price, 15 to 20 real photos, a short video, an honest description and a fast reply waiting. Run through these 12 points before every post.
The checklist
- 1. Every field filled in. Year, make, model, trim, mileage, body style, fuel, transmission, colors and condition. Buyers filter by these; a blank field can hide your vehicle.
- 2. A first line that says it all. Year, make, model, trim, mileage and the one thing that stands out: "2021 Ford F-150 XLT 4x4, 62,000 km, one owner."
- 3. The real price. The price you'd actually sell for, identical to your website. In Ontario and Quebec, the advertised price must include the dealer's fees; only taxes and, in Ontario, licensing stay out (OMVIC, OPC). Never "$1."
- 4. The exact mileage. In kilometres or miles, never rounded down.
- 5. 15 to 20 real photos. Daylight, the actual vehicle, in this order: front three-quarter, sides, back, interior, dashboard with the odometer, seats, trunk, tires and any damage.
- 6. A cover photo that stops the scroll. Front three-quarter, clean vehicle, clean background, no clutter.
- 7. A 30- to 60-second video. A walkaround answers condition questions before they're asked. How to film it: How to film a car walkaround video with your phone
- 8. A description that sells. The facts first, then features, condition and one next step. Formula and examples: How to write a vehicle description that sells. Or try our Free AI vehicle description generator.
- 9. Honest condition. Show and mention scratches, dents and wear. It saves wasted trips and builds trust.
- 10. The right location. Your dealership's area and address, never a personal home address.
- 11. A reply ready. An automatic first reply turned on, and a person or DriveGood AI ready for the next questions. What to say: "Is this still available?" How car dealers should answer Marketplace messages
- 12. Renew, update, remove. Renew so the listing keeps showing up, update the price when it changes and remove the vehicle the day it sells.
5 mistakes that cost you messages
- All caps and slogans. They read like spam.
- Stock photos. Buyers want the vehicle they'll drive home.
- The same description on every vehicle. Meta can restrict accounts for repetitive content (Meta Transparency Center).
- Posting everything at once. A steady pace is safer than bursts.
- A sold vehicle still listed. It wastes the buyer's time and hurts your reputation.
